The world has been my office
Over the past 25 years I have had the great privilege to spend a great deal of time overseas both as an engineer and as
a manager.

Starting in 1983, I started making frequent trips to the UK and Germany to support development that was being done in
the UK for Siemens in Germany as I had written the RTOS for the product.

In 1987, I made a number of trips to Australia to resolve technical and business issues in bringing Nortel's Fault-Tolerant
servers on-line for the Queensland Lotto.  This was a successful turn-around project where the contractor for
Queensland Lotto was ready to select another vendor due to technical issues but was persuaded to work with my team
and ended up buying significantly more equipment.

Between 1990 and 1992 I spent about half my time in London getting large fault tolerant database servers (40+ million
user records with stringent performance requirements) working for British Telecom in both their 999 number search and
their commercial user database search applications.  These server farms were totally custom hardware and software from
the operating system up through the application.

In the remainder of the 90's, I made frequent trips to Russia to start a development team, to Japan and Taiwan to
correct issues with suppliers, to Germany and France to support my development teams and a major partner, to Turkey,
China, and Japan to help sell our product and support customers.

In the past couple of years, I have spent a good deal of time in Bangalore, India setting up a software development team.

I have always enjoyed the cultural exchange and learning that comes from working with international teams and
absorbing their cultures.  Working on problems with Technologists from other cultures often enriches one's own
experience and enhances the capability to develop solutions.

However, it does take carefully crafted leadership and management techniques to meld teams from multiple countries and
cultures.  I have gained this experience over the years.

In the world of engineering, the world is shrinking at a tremendous rate and my experiences around the world could be
very valuable to you if you either have or are contemplating an offshore venture.
